Kejriwal Claims Amit Shah Poised to Become PM After Modi Turns 75
  • PublishedMay 16, 2024

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal reiterated his claim that Amit Shah would succeed Narendra Modi as Prime Minister once Modi turns 75 in 2025. At a joint press conference with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav in Lucknow, Kejriwal emphasized that Modi has never explicitly stated he wouldn’t retire at 75. Kejriwal argued that the BJP has strategically sidelined key leaders like Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Vasundhara Raje, and Devendra Fadnavis to clear the path for Amit Shah’s ascension.

Kejriwal further asserted that the BJP’s only remaining internal challenge, Yogi Adityanath, would be removed within a few months. He also claimed the BJP plans to end reservation if they win the next election. In response, Amit Shah dismissed Kejriwal’s assertions, affirming that Modi will complete his term and lead the party even beyond 2029. Shah accused Kejriwal of attempting to sow confusion where none exists within the BJP, assuring that Modi’s leadership remains unchallenged.

Kejriwal’s remarks came during his first rally after being released from Tihar Jail, where he underscored his belief that a vote for the BJP is essentially a vote to install Amit Shah as the next Prime Minister. Shah countered by stating there is no clause in the BJP’s constitution mandating retirement at 75, reaffirming Modi’s continued leadership.
