Tejashwi Yadav: BJP in “Depression” as Real Issues Overshadow Hindutva Plank
  • PublishedApril 29, 2024

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav has criticized the BJP’s campaign strategy, stating that the first two phases of polling have left the party in “depression.” Yadav emphasized that voters are focused on real issues like livelihood, employment, education, and healthcare, rather than the BJP’s Hindutva agenda.

Yadav dismissed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rhetoric on Hindutva and attacks on the opposition’s reservation policies, asserting that the majority of Hindus are more concerned about issues like unemployment and inflation. He criticized Modi for deviating from substantive discussions on governance and development.

Regarding concerns about unemployment, Yadav highlighted the BJP’s double anti-incumbency challenge and questioned the government’s track record in fulfilling promises. He also downplayed the BJP’s lead in certain polls, emphasizing the RJD’s commitment to addressing the needs of all sections of society beyond caste considerations.

Yadav reaffirmed his party’s support for a nationwide caste census as a long-term policy measure for social and economic justice. He expressed confidence in the INDIA bloc’s performance, suggesting that it has put the ruling NDA alliance on the defensive.

Lastly, Yadav addressed the issue of arrests of opposition leaders, stating that it has galvanized unity among them and raised concerns among voters about attempts to undermine democracy. He expressed optimism about his sister Rohini Acharya’s electoral prospects, despite facing personal attacks from opposition leaders.

Overall, Yadav’s remarks reflect a focus on substantive governance issues and criticism of the BJP’s reliance on Hindutva rhetoric in the ongoing elections.
