Jairam Ramesh Criticizes PM Modi on Women’s Day, Questions Manipur Crisis, Women’s Safety, and ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ Yojana
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh issued a pointed statement on International Women’s Day, targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi on various women’s issues across India. Ramesh raised concerns about the “virtual civil war” situation in Manipur and questioned why the Prime Minister had not visited the state amid reports of assaults on women.
He also criticized Modi’s silence on allegations of sexual harassment by women wrestlers against BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, questioning the Prime Minister’s stance on the issue. Ramesh accused the Modi government of failing to tackle rising prices of essential commodities and demanded clarity on plans to alleviate the burden on households.
Terming Modi’s regime as an ‘era of injustice,’ Ramesh raised concerns about the impact of high unemployment rates on women job seekers and questioned if the Prime Minister had a solution to bring women back into the economic mainstream.
Additionally, Ramesh questioned the efficacy of the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” Yojana, alleging that a significant portion of its budget is allocated to advertisements rather than meaningful initiatives to address female infanticide and promote education. He called for a more meaningful vision to stop female infanticide and promote women’s education, emphasizing that the women of India demand and deserve answers.
