BJP MP Upendra Singh Rawat Targeted with ‘Fake’ Obscene Video Amidst Election Campaign
Days after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unveiled its candidate list for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, a scandal has emerged involving a ‘fake’ obscene video targeting BJP MP Upendra Singh Rawat. Rawat, a candidate from Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh, had his team file an FIR after the video went viral on social media. The complaint alleges that unknown individuals circulated a doctored explicit video of the MP to tarnish his image following his candidacy announcement. Police sources confirm that the video depicts a man in a compromising position with a woman, claimed to be Upendra Singh Rawat. The MP asserts that the video is entirely manipulated and attributes the act to political opponents. Rawat, who replaced Priyanka Singh Rawat as the BJP candidate for Barabanki in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, links the incident to his recent nomination. The scandal adds a contentious dimension to the BJP’s electoral preparations, which already face challenges with the replacement of 33 sitting MPs and the release of the party’s first list featuring key figures like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, and Rajnath Singh.
