Delhi Braces for Traffic Chaos as Farmers’ Protest March Resumes
  • PublishedFebruary 14, 2024

Delhi is set for another day of traffic disruption as farmers resume their ‘Chalo Delhi’ protest march. Following clashes at the Punjab-Haryana border on Tuesday, the Delhi Police issued a fresh traffic advisory for commuters. The advisory informed the public about the closure of National Highway-44 for general traffic beyond Singhu Border, leading to significant disruptions on NH-9, NH-24, and DND. While some lanes were open for public use, the movement of vehicles was expected to be slow.

The advisory suggested alternative routes for those traveling to Haryana and advised commuters to plan their journey considering potential delays. Delhi Police urged the public to avoid these stretches during peak hours. The ongoing farmers’ protest has prompted increased security measures, leading to the temporary closure of certain entry and exit gates at nine Delhi Metro stations. Commuters were directed to use alternative gates, and these measures were implemented in collaboration with Delhi Police.

The farmers’ ‘Agitation’ is a response to the government’s handling of their demands, including the enactment of a law to guarantee a minimum support price (MSP) for crops. As the protest intensifies, Delhi faces continued traffic disruptions, and commuters are advised to stay informed about the changing traffic conditions.
