ICC Introduces New Gender Eligibility Regulations for International Women’s Cricket

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announces a pivotal policy change regarding gender eligibility in international women’s cricket. Following a comprehensive nine-month consultation process with cricket stakeholders, the ICC has instituted new regulations prohibiting transgender cricketers who have undergone male puberty from participating in the highest level of women’s cricket, irrespective of surgical or reassignment treatment.

This decision, aimed at preserving the integrity and safety of players in the international women’s game, aligns with scientific foundations and core principles identified during the review. Geoff Allardice, ICC Chief Executive, emphasized the paramount importance of safeguarding the sport’s integrity while acknowledging inclusivity as a key value.

This alteration in policy, initiated with the forthcoming inclusion of cricket in the 2028 Olympics, adheres to guidelines set forth by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). While these regulations pertain solely to international women’s cricket, gender eligibility at the domestic level remains subject to individual Member boards and local legislation.
