Heatwave to continue, rain likely in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh: IMD

Punjab is witnessing a steady rise in temperatures this March, with heat intensifying day by day. Similar trends are observed in Delhi-NCR and other states, where scorching sunlight is making it tough for people to step out during the day. In Punjab, the heatwave has begun, but relief is on the horizon with a possibility of rain today, Wednesday, and Thursday. The weather department has issued a yellow alert for the state today, signaling caution.

Yesterday, the average maximum temperature in Punjab surged by 1.2°C, reaching 4.4°C above normal. Bathinda recorded the highest at 35.8°C, significantly exceeding the seasonal average. This spike has raised concerns, with forecasts suggesting temperatures could climb further in the coming days. On Wednesday, the maximum temperature may hit 32°C, while it’s expected to drop slightly to 29°C in the days following. However, no rain is predicted beyond Thursday, meaning the heat could soon become oppressive.

Weather experts warn that April will likely see temperatures peak, with the heatwave intensifying across the region. The impact of rising temperatures was evident as early as Monday morning, disrupting daily routines before people could even leave for work. The sudden shift caught many off guard, underscoring the erratic weather patterns this season.

For now, the anticipated showers offer temporary respite, but Punjab residents should brace for hotter days ahead. With no significant rainfall expected post-Thursday, the state may face challenging conditions as summer approaches its full strength. Stay updated with the latest forecasts and take precautions to beat the heat.
