Jackie Shroff Reacts to the Box Office Failure of Baby John
Actor Jackie Shroff, who played the antagonist in the much-anticipated action-drama Baby John, expressed his feelings about the film’s underwhelming box office performance. Made on a budget of over ₹180 crore, the Hindi remake of Thalapathy Vijay’s Tamil hit Theri struggled to connect with audiences, earning just ₹40 crore domestically.
Speaking exclusively to India Today Digital, Shroff said, “The producers do get affected. They put in a lot of money with trust in these projects. And when they do not recover it, that is sad. As actors, you want your performance to be appreciated, but more importantly, you want the film to succeed.” He added, “Dukh hota hai par khud ke liye nahi, producers ke liye (You feel bad, but not for yourself, for the producers).”
Baby John, which opened to ₹11.25 crore, witnessed a drastic fall in collections on its second day and continues to struggle at the box office. Co-star Rajpal Yadav also reflected on the film’s failure, attributing it to its status as a remake. “Varun Dhawan has always taken risks. If this wasn’t a remake, it would have been one of the best films of my career,” he remarked.
Starring Varun Dhawan, Keerthy Suresh, and Wamiqa Gabbi, Baby John aimed to be a Christmas blockbuster but faced stiff challenges in meeting audience expectations.
