BCCI Implements New Guidelines Following Australia Tour Loss

BCCI Implements New Guidelines Following Australia Tour Loss
  • PublishedJanuary 14, 2025

Following India’s disappointing 1-3 loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced strict measures to refocus the team and address concerns regarding discipline and cohesion.

Sources reveal that the BCCI has revised its policy on family involvement during tours, now limiting the presence of wives and girlfriends to 14 days for tours lasting over 45 days. For shorter tours, the duration will be capped at seven days. Families will no longer be permitted to stay for the entirety of tournaments, emphasizing a renewed focus on cricketing commitments.

Additional directives include mandatory team travel via the team bus and personal expenses for luggage exceeding 150 kg. Notably, Gautam Gambhir’s personal manager will be restricted from accessing the VIP box, team bus, or official team accommodations.

The decision comes after reports of a divided team atmosphere and multiple controversies during the Australia tour, including player retirements, leadership disputes, and inconsistent team travel arrangements. Despite these setbacks, the BCCI remains committed to stability ahead of critical tournaments like the upcoming Champions Trophy.

A recent review meeting with Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir underscored the need for a disciplined and united approach moving forward. The BCCI has refrained from immediate team composition changes, opting instead for these policy reforms to restore focus and strengthen team dynamics.
