Yogi Adityanath Highlights Ganga’s Transformation Under Double-Engine Government
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, speaking at AajTak’s Dharma Sansad event, took a dig at the opposition, particularly the Samajwadi Party, over the state of the Ganga during the 2013 Kumbh Mela. He claimed the Mauritian Prime Minister, Pravind Jugnauth, avoided taking a dip in the Ganga that year due to the river’s pollution and mismanagement.
“In 2013, when the Mauritian Prime Minister visited the Kumbh, he refrained from taking a holy dip after witnessing the filth and mismanagement. With tears in his eyes, he questioned, ‘Is this the Ganga?’” Adityanath stated, highlighting the lack of efforts by the Samajwadi Party government then led by Akhilesh Yadav.
The Chief Minister contrasted this with the 2019 Kumbh Mela, during which Jugnauth and his delegation of 400 members, including family, joyfully took a dip in the river. Adityanath attributed this transformation to the “double-engine government” and its dedicated efforts to rejuvenate the Ganga.
Adityanath also emphasized the current preparations for the upcoming Maha Kumbh Mela, scheduled from January 13 to February 26 in Prayagraj, calling it a testament to the improved state of the Ganga. “I have visited Prayagraj multiple times, taken dips in the Ganga, and even sipped its water. My health remained intact, contrary to the misinformation spread by some,” he said.
With millions of devotees expected to participate, Adityanath reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining cleanliness and ensuring a smooth and sacred experience for all attendees.
