Tragedy in Dehradun: Speeding Innova Crash Claims Six Young Lives
A night of celebration turned fatal when a speeding Innova collided with a container truck near ONGC Chowk, Dehradun, on Monday night, killing six students. The victims, all in their early twenties, included Atul Agrawal (24), Rishabh Jain (24), Navya Goel (23), Kamakshi (20), Guneet (19), and Kunal Kukreja (23) from Chamba. The sole survivor, Siddhesh Agrawal (25), remains hospitalized but cannot recall the crash.
Initial reports suggest the newly purchased Innova, driven by Atul, was speeding while attempting to overtake a luxury car when it rear-ended the truck. The vehicle’s roof was torn off, decapitating two passengers on impact. Police believe speeding was the primary cause, with the truck driver not at fault.
A video obtained by India Today allegedly shows the group drinking and partying earlier in the evening, though police are waiting for autopsy results to confirm if intoxication played a role.
The incident occurred at around 1:30 a.m., reducing the Innova to a mangled wreck. The vehicle, bought just days before, was a gift from Atul’s father. He had hosted a party that evening, celebrating the new car before taking his friends for a drive—one that ended in devastating loss.
The tragedy has left families in mourning, with officials urging the public not to speculate about the students’ activities that night.
