Tom Homan’s Old Comments on Immigration Go Viral Ahead of New Role in Trump Administration.
  • PublishedNovember 12, 2024

As Tom Homan prepares to take charge of U.S. border policy in the Donald Trump 2.0 administration, past comments from the former acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have resurfaced, igniting debate on his hardline stance toward immigration.

A viral video from a 2019 immigration hearing shows Homan clashing with Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, where he held Congress accountable for failing to secure the U.S.-Mexico border. “You have failed the American people for not securing the border and closing loopholes,” Homan stated firmly. In another widely circulated video, Homan addresses a question about family separations, asserting, “Of course, yes, families can be deported together,” in response to concerns raised by CBS News’s 60 Minutes host.

Homan’s tough rhetoric aligns with the Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” immigration policy, which was a key issue during Trump’s initial term. With Trump’s return to the White House set for January 2025, many are watching closely to see how Homan, who retired in 2018, will enforce border security and deportation policies in the upcoming administration.

As the U.S. faces continued debates over immigration reform, Homan’s appointment signals a renewed focus on securing the southern border and executing mass deportations, an issue that continues to resonate with Trump’s political base.
