IDF Thwarts Infiltration Attempt from Jordan’s Dead Sea Region.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) successfully foiled an infiltration attempt by suspected terrorists crossing into Israel from Jordan’s Dead Sea region. The incident took place south of the Dead Sea, where IDF troops intercepted and neutralized two armed individuals after they opened fire on Israeli forces.
“IDF troops were dispatched to the scene and neutralized two terrorists who fired at the forces,” the military confirmed in an official statement. “Additional forces have been deployed to secure the area and conduct ground and aerial searches for a third suspect, who likely fled the scene.”
This incident comes shortly after the attack on September 8, when a gunman from Jordan killed three Israeli civilians at the Allenby Bridge border crossing. The attacker was shot dead by security personnel, marking the first cross-border attack along the Jordan-Israel border since October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched a large-scale assault on southern Israel.
Despite heightened tensions, Israel and Jordan maintain strong security cooperation. Both nations have shared security ties since signing a peace treaty in 1994. The incident underscores the complex security challenges along the border regions.
The Dead Sea crossing is a critical trade route, with dozens of trucks transporting goods from Jordan and the Gulf into the West Bank and Israel daily. The IDF remains vigilant to safeguard the border and prevent any further security breaches.
