US Frustrated Over Israel’s Lack of Transparency on Retaliatory Strikes Against Iran.
The Biden administration has expressed growing frustration with Israel after being repeatedly left in the dark about its military strikes in Gaza, Lebanon, and potential plans for retaliation against Iran. According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, Israel has withheld details of its response to a ballistic missile attack from Iran, fueling concerns of escalating tensions in the Middle East.
While the US has urged Israel to avoid targeting Iran’s nuclear sites or oil facilities to prevent a wider conflict, Israel has yet to share its specific plans. US officials had anticipated gaining clarity during Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant’s scheduled visit to Washington, but the visit was postponed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In recent weeks, Israel’s military actions, including the assassination of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah, have taken place without prior notification to the US, leading American officials to question Israel’s unilateral approach. The US has since bolstered its military presence in the region to support its ally and safeguard mutual interests.
Amid ongoing developments, the Biden administration sent Army General Erik Kurilla, head of US Central Command, to Israel to stress the importance of coordination, but Israel has not yet provided guarantees of communication regarding future strikes.
