BJP Surges Ahead in Haryana, Congress-NC Alliance Dominates in J&K: Election Results 2024
In a dramatic turn of events, the BJP is poised to retain power in Haryana, leading in 49 seats, while Congress and its ally, the National Conference (NC), are pulling ahead in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) with leads in 44 seats.
In Haryana, the BJP is eyeing a third consecutive term despite a tough challenge from Congress, which is determined to make a comeback after a decade out of power. Rebel candidates, who ran as independents after being denied party tickets, have largely struggled, with most trailing behind official BJP candidates. High-profile battles include Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who is leading in Ladwa, while former deputy CM Dushyant Chautala is trailing in Uchana Kalan. Congress heavyweight Bhupinder Singh Hooda leads from Garhi Sampla-Kiloi.
Meanwhile, in J&K, the Congress-NC alliance has made significant gains, leading in 44 seats, while the BJP is trailing with 26 seats. PDP’s Iltija Mufti has conceded defeat in Bijbehara, while prominent NC leader Omar Abdullah leads in both Budgam and Ganderbal constituencies. Despite early leads, the BJP has faced tough competition in several regions of the Union Territory.
As the counting continues, both states’ electoral results will have broader implications, shaping the political narrative ahead of other major elections.
