External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has expressed India’s concern over the growing conflict in the Middle East, calling for urgent diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation. Speaking at a think tank in Washington, Jaishankar emphasized India’s readiness to engage through dialogue to mitigate tensions between Israel and Iran.

“Don’t underestimate the importance of communication in difficult times,” Jaishankar stated. He noted that India could contribute to the peace process by facilitating discussions and diplomatic exchanges. His remarks came just hours before Iran launched over 180 missiles at Israel in retaliation for the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

Jaishankar also underscored the importance of adhering to international humanitarian law, particularly in minimizing harm to civilians. “We regard October 7 as a terrorist attack. While Israel has the right to respond, any country’s actions must be measured and in accordance with international humanitarian standards,” he added.

The minister expressed concern over the potential expansion of the conflict, warning of its implications for regional stability. He called for international humanitarian efforts to protect civilians and prevent the situation from deteriorating into a broader conflict involving the Red Sea and the Houthis.

India remains committed to diplomatic engagement and peaceful resolution in the Middle East.
