Donald Trump Announces Meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi During US Visit.
Former US President and current Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump announced at a campaign event in Michigan that he will meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi next week during the latter’s visit to the United States. The meeting comes as part of PM Modi’s scheduled visit to attend key global events, including the Quad Leaders Summit.
While Trump did not provide specific details regarding the location or timing of the meeting, it is expected to take place during PM Modi’s three-day visit, which begins on September 21. The Prime Minister is attending the Quad Summit hosted by US President Joe Biden, alongside Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, in Delaware.
Additionally, PM Modi is slated to address the ‘Summit of the Future’ at the United Nations General Assembly and meet with the Indian community in New York on September 22.
This will be the first meeting between Trump and Modi since February 2020, when Trump visited India as President, an event Modi described as a “path-breaking moment” in US-India relations. The leaders previously met in 2019 during the G-20 Summit in Osaka, Japan, and in 2017 at the ASEAN Summit in Manila.
