Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a rally in Kashmir’s Doda district, sharply criticized Congress for the alleged assault on India Today journalist Rohit Sharma by members of Rahul Gandhi’s team in the United States. Addressing the crowd, PM Modi accused Congress of “indulging in brutality” and questioned their commitment to democracy and freedom of speech.

The incident occurred in Dallas, where Sharma was conducting an interview with Indian Overseas Congress chief Sam Pitroda. Sharma claimed that Congress workers manhandled him, locked him in a room, and deleted the video footage of the interview. The altercation reportedly began after Sharma asked a controversial question about Hindus being targeted in Bangladesh.

Reacting to the incident, Pitroda expressed disapproval of the treatment Sharma received, assuring that he would look into the matter. “I am for free press and dignity. I do not approve of this kind of behavior,” Pitroda stated.

PM Modi condemned the act, stating, “A journalist of our country was subjected to cruelty in the USA by Congress. The media is a crucial pillar of democracy, and such behavior lowers India’s prestige on international soil.”

The incident has sparked widespread discussion about press freedom and political conduct, with both parties offering their perspectives on the matter.
