Kolkata Doctor’s Gruesome Death: Suspect Sanjay Roy Denies Involvement During CBI Polygraph Test
Sanjay Roy, the main suspect in the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, has denied his involvement during a polygraph test conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Roy, a civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police, was arrested on August 10 based on CCTV footage and the discovery of his Bluetooth headset at the crime scene.
Initially confessing to the crime, Roy later retracted his statement, claiming he was being framed. During the polygraph test, which took place on August 25 at Kolkata’s Presidency Central Jail, Roy reportedly stated, “I didn’t commit the murder. I ran from the seminar hall after seeing the body.” However, the test reportedly showed signs of deception in his responses.
The CBI has ruled out the possibility of gang-rape, identifying Roy as the lone suspect. While polygraph results are inadmissible in court, the agency has gathered substantial evidence and recorded over 100 witness statements. They are now in the final stages of the investigation, awaiting a crucial medical report from AIIMS in Delhi. Charges are expected to be filed soon.
The case has sparked widespread outrage, with questions raised about the safety of healthcare professionals in India.
