15th NEET Aspirant Suicide in Kota This Year Raises Alarms.
In a deeply troubling incident, a 21-year-old NEET aspirant was found dead in his rented accommodation in Kota, marking the 15th suspected student suicide in the city this year. The deceased, identified as Parshuram from Barsana, Uttar Pradesh, had arrived in Kota just a week ago to begin his NEET preparation.
Parshuram was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his room at Jawahar Nagar after the landlord, Anoop Kumar, noticed his absence late Wednesday night and alerted the police. Upon breaking open the door, authorities discovered the tragic scene. The circumstances leading to Parshuram’s death remain unclear, and an autopsy is scheduled for today. His family has been informed of the incident.
This tragic case adds to the alarming tally of student suicides in Kota, known as India’s “coaching hub.” In 2024 alone, 15 students have taken their lives, following 29 similar incidents last year. The spate of suicides underscores the mounting pressure on students in Kota, where intense competition and academic expectations often take a heavy toll on mental health.
Local authorities and educational institutions are urged to take immediate action to address this crisis, providing better mental health support and resources for students.
