Kolkata Doctor’s Rape-Murder Case: Accused Sanjay Roy Demands Egg Chowmein in Jail, Faces Reality Check
  • PublishedAugust 31, 2024

Sanjay Roy, the main accused in the high-profile rape and murder case of a Kolkata doctor, has been causing a stir at the Presidency correctional home where he is currently detained. According to reports, Roy, who has been discontented with the standard prison fare of “roti-sabzi,” demanded to be served egg chowmein instead. However, his request was swiftly denied by the prison authorities, as regulations require that all inmates receive the same meals.

When served the standard meal, Roy reportedly became agitated, but after being reprimanded by jail staff, he reluctantly accepted the food. This incident highlights the growing tension around Roy, who has already drawn attention for his unusual behavior since being transferred from CBI custody to the correctional facility. Initially, he requested extra sleep and was noted to be muttering to himself, though he has since appeared to settle into the routine.

Meanwhile, the investigation into the brutal rape and murder of the Kolkata doctor continues, with Sanjay Roy being the only person arrested so far. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has also been rigorously questioning Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, in connection with both the rape-murder case and a financial misconduct probe at the hospital. Ghosh has been questioned for over 140 hours across 14 consecutive days, underscoring the complexity and intensity of the ongoing investigation.

As the legal and investigative processes unfold, Sanjay Roy remains in judicial custody, with his outbursts in jail adding another layer of drama to an already sensational case.
