  • PublishedAugust 30, 2024

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Maharashtra, marked significant strides in the state’s infrastructure and economic development. At the Global Fintech Fest 2024 in Mumbai, Modi highlighted the festive season’s buoyant impact on the country’s economy and markets. He later traveled to Palghar to lay the foundation stone for the ambitious Vadhvan Port project, valued at approximately ₹76,000 crores.

Vadhvan Port, located near Dahanu in Palghar district, is set to become one of India’s largest deep-water ports. It will serve as a key maritime gateway, facilitating global trade by accommodating large container vessels and ultra-large cargo ships. The port will boast advanced technology, including deep berths and modern cargo handling facilities, which are expected to generate significant employment opportunities and boost local businesses. The project also emphasizes sustainable development, aiming to minimize environmental impact while meeting rigorous ecological standards.

In addition to the port project, PM Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation for 218 fisheries projects across the nation, with a combined investment of around ₹1,560 crores. These projects aim to enhance infrastructure and productivity in the fisheries sector, creating over five lakh jobs. Modi also launched the National Roll Out of the Vessel Communication and Support System, a ₹360 crore initiative developed by ISRO, designed to improve communication, safety, and rescue operations for fishermen.

These initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to enhancing port-led development, boosting the fisheries sector, and fostering sustainable growth in Maharashtra and beyond.
