Explosion at Delta Air Lines Facility Claims Two Lives, One Injured
Two workers tragically lost their lives, and one was seriously injured in a tire explosion at Delta Air Lines’ maintenance facility near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Tuesday morning. The explosion occurred while wheel components were being disassembled for maintenance at a Delta TechOps wheel and brake shop. The parts were not attached to an aircraft at the time.
Delta Air Lines has extended its condolences to the affected families and colleagues, stating, “The Delta family is heartbroken at the loss of two team members and the injury of another. We have extended our full support to family members and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.”
The injured worker remains under medical care, and Delta is cooperating fully with authorities to determine the cause of the incident. The Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has launched an investigation into the explosion.
Delta’s maintenance operations and flights were not impacted by the incident. The company has made grief counselors available to employees and expressed gratitude to first responders and medical teams for their swift action.
Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers have also expressed their condolences and urged for a thorough investigation.
