Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, during his official visit to India, expressed hope that India would continue to address issues concerning minorities and religious sentiments while playing its rightful role on the global stage. In an interactive session at the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) in Delhi, Ibrahim highlighted India’s historical contributions to democracy, freedom, and justice, emphasizing its role as a beacon of hope in the region.

During his visit, Prime Minister Ibrahim and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the elevation of the India-Malaysia partnership to a “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.” This move reflects the renewed momentum and energy in bilateral relations, as both leaders called for expanding economic cooperation. Areas identified for potential collaboration include semiconductors, financial technology, the defense industry, and artificial intelligence (AI).

Prime Minister Modi also highlighted Malaysia’s $5 billion investment in India last year and announced a one-off export of 200,000 metric tons of non-basmati rice to Malaysia, making an exception to India’s current export ban.

The visit marks a significant step in strengthening the India-Malaysia relationship, with both nations committed to enhancing trade, investment, and cooperation across various sectors. The leaders reaffirmed their dedication to working together to address global challenges and ensure mutual prosperity.
