In a devastating incident, a bus carrying Pakistani pilgrims overturned in Iran’s central Yazd province, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 35 lives. The accident occurred on Tuesday night, and 18 additional passengers were injured and rushed to a local hospital for immediate medical care. The bus was en route from Pakistan to Iraq, carrying pilgrims primarily from Larkana in Sindh province.

The pilgrims were traveling to Iraq to participate in the Arbaeen commemoration, which honors the martyrdom of Prophet Muhammad’s grandson, Hussein, in the Battle of Karbala. The accident has sent shockwaves through both Pakistan and Iran, with condolences pouring in from various quarters.

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, expressed his deep sorrow and concern for the victims and their families. In a statement on social media, he said, “I am gravely concerned about the safety and welfare of the injured pilgrims. Our Ambassador in Tehran has been instructed to ascertain the exact situation, provide immediate medical relief, and facilitate the swift repatriation of the deceased back to Pakistan.”

The Pakistani government is closely coordinating with Iranian authorities to ensure that the injured receive the best possible care and that the deceased are respectfully returned to their homeland.
