Kokernag Engagement: A Positive Shift in Counterterrorism Efforts
The recent Kokernag operation in South Kashmir, though marked by the loss of two Indian soldiers, is seen as a significant step forward in bridging the gap between intelligence and armed response. The operation is part of a broader strategy to counter the infiltration of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists into India, particularly through the Samba-Kathua sector.
Intelligence reports indicate that around 35 Pakistani nationals, primarily from JeM, have crossed into India, with some moving toward South Kashmir. The Indian Army, bolstered by paramilitary forces like the Assam Rifles, is now fully deployed in the Jammu region, emphasizing counter-insurgency in the challenging forested and mountainous terrain.
Despite the challenges, the Indian security forces are improving their response capabilities, with increased coordination among the state police, intelligence agencies, and the military. The Kokernag engagement reflects this progress, and positive outcomes are anticipated as the operations continue. The Indian Army, under the leadership of General Upendra Dwivedi, remains committed to neutralizing the threat posed by these infiltrators.
