Monsoon Havoc in Himachal Pradesh: Dam Break Causes Severe Flooding and Chaos
  • PublishedAugust 1, 2024

Himachal Pradesh, August 1, 2024 — Himachal Pradesh is reeling from the impact of severe monsoon rains that have caused significant disruptions in the region. A major incident occurred when the dam of the power project in Malana village, Manikaran, Kullu district, broke, resulting in catastrophic flooding across the valley.

The breach has led to extensive water damage and chaos, with the Beas River swelling dangerously due to overnight rains. The river’s changed course near Manali city has resulted in it overflowing onto the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway. Multiple sections of the highway are now closed due to landslides triggered by the heavy rain.

In addition to the highway closures, residents in the Bhuntar area have been issued alerts as the Parvati River has also risen to alarming levels, causing severe flooding in the region. Authorities are currently assessing the situation and coordinating emergency response efforts to manage the crisis and ensure public safety.

Local officials are urging residents to stay indoors and avoid travel unless absolutely necessary. Emergency services are actively working to clear roadways and provide assistance to affected areas.
