SC Directs NTA to Publish Centre-Wise NEET UG Results Amid Paper Leak Allegations
The Supreme Court has directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to publish centre and city-wise results for NEET UG 2024 by 5 p.m. on Friday, ensuring candidates’ identities remain masked. This follows allegations of paper leaks in Patna and Hazaribagh, which the court acknowledged as facts. The Chief Justice noted the importance of examining the marks pattern to determine if the leak affected the exam’s integrity.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta opposed revealing exam centres, but the court insisted it would help identify any irregularities. Senior Advocate Hooda argued the leak was systemic, involving the transportation of question papers. The Supreme Court stated any order for a retest must prove the entire exam’s sanctity was compromised.
The court also highlighted significant increases in top scores and candidate numbers, raising concerns about possible systemic failures. The NTA has been instructed to provide detailed information on the students from affected areas and those who changed their exam centres. The next hearing is scheduled for Monday, with undergraduate medical counselling set to begin on July 24.
