Kiran Choudhry Joins BJP, Citing Centralized Control in Haryana Congress
  • PublishedJune 19, 2024

Former Haryana Congress leader Kiran Choudhry and her daughter Shruti Choudhry have officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in New Delhi, alleging that the state Congress functioned as a “personal fiefdom.” Both leaders resigned from the Congress earlier, pointing fingers at the party’s internal governance under former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

At a press conference following their switch, Kiran Choudhry expressed her dedication to the Congress but criticized its leadership for stalling progress and alienating senior members. “For years, the Haryana Congress became individual-centric, obstructing the party’s growth. Many prominent leaders left due to this,” she stated, emphasizing her move to ensure equitable treatment for party workers.

Kiran Choudhry, daughter-in-law of former Haryana chief minister Bansi Lal and current MLA from Tosham, highlighted her admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047 and praised BJP’s governance under Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in Haryana. Shruti Choudhry echoed similar sentiments, crediting Modi and Khattar for their leadership and drawing inspiration from the legacy of Bansi Lal.

The defection of Kiran and Shruti Choudhry, accompanied by their supporters, was marked by their induction into BJP in the presence of senior party figures including Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and national general secretary Tarun Chugh.
