Joe Biden Supports Son Hunter After Gun Charges Conviction

Joe Biden Supports Son Hunter After Gun Charges Conviction
  • PublishedJune 12, 2024

President Joe Biden publicly showed support for his son, Hunter Biden, following Hunter’s conviction on three federal gun charges. The president arranged a photo op at the airport where he was greeted by Hunter, along with Hunter’s wife Melissa Cohen and their son Beau. The embrace between father and son was captured by the press pool, including photographers, videographers, and reporters.

The public display of support came after a federal jury found Hunter guilty of violating laws aimed at preventing drug addicts from owning guns. President Biden later released a statement expressing both his roles as a father and as the President. He acknowledged the challenges of addiction and stated his acceptance of the case’s outcome while Hunter considers an appeal.

Hunter’s conviction is notable as it marks the first time an immediate family member of a US president has been found guilty of a crime during the president’s term in office. Despite expressing disappointment in the outcome, Hunter emphasized his gratitude for the support he received from his loved ones and community.

Defense attorney Abbe Lowell expressed disappointment with the verdict but reiterated their respect for the judicial process and intention to pursue legal challenges. Lowell also highlighted Hunter’s gratitude for the support he has received throughout his recovery journey. Hunter affirmed his belief in the possibility of recovery and expressed gratitude for experiencing it “one day at a time.”
