NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and former premier Nawaz Sharif congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on beginning his third term. Shehbaz Sharif extended his felicitations on X, while Nawaz Sharif, head of the ruling PML-N, praised Modi’s leadership and called for replacing hate with hope, urging collaboration for the betterment of South Asia.

Modi responded to Shehbaz Sharif’s message, thanking him for his good wishes. The Indian-Pakistani relations, which have been strained following several terror attacks and the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, were highlighted, noting the absence of messages from China’s top leadership.

Modi also received congratulations from various global leaders, including Finland’s Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, former Afghan president Hamid Karzai, philanthropist Bill Gates, and Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni. Orpo expressed eagerness to deepen bilateral ties, while Karzai and Gates acknowledged Modi’s leadership in fostering progress and innovation. Museveni emphasized the shared aspirations between Africa and India, with Modi affirming the strong partnership.

Additionally, Slovenian PM Robert Golob conveyed his wishes to Modi, looking forward to strengthening international cooperation. Modi’s responses highlighted his commitment to enhancing bilateral relations and promoting global partnerships for innovation, prosperity, and sustainable development.
