JD(U) Leaders Hail Nitish Kumar as ‘Tiger’ Ahead of Modi’s Swearing-In Ceremony
  • PublishedJune 8, 2024

As anticipation builds for Narendra Modi’s upcoming swearing-in ceremony as Prime Minister of India, a large poster featuring Bihar Chief Minister and Janta Dal (United) (JD(U)) supremo Nitish Kumar with the words “TIGER ZINDA HAI” (Tiger is alive) emerged in Patna. Placed strategically near the planetarium, the poster underscores Kumar’s pivotal role in bolstering the performance of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the recent Lok Sabha elections.

JD(U) leaders assert that labeling Kumar as the ‘tiger’ is fitting, given his significant influence in shaping the NDA’s success within Bihar. Colourful banners and posters praising Kumar have adorned various locations across the city, reflecting the party’s high morale following its impressive performance in the polls.

Neeraj Kumar, a JD(U) leader, highlighted Kumar’s popularity among voters, emphasizing that the chief minister’s leadership played a crucial role in the party’s electoral success. Despite facing scrutiny and criticism prior to the poll results, Kumar emerged as a key figure within the NDA, solidifying his position as a popular leader in Bihar.

The poster’s appearance coincides with reports of overtures from the INDIA bloc towards Kumar and N Chandrababu Naidu, both allies of the BJP-led NDA. However, Kumar’s steadfast support for Modi’s government underscores his commitment to the alliance.

With JD(U) and BJP jointly winning 24 out of 33 seats in Bihar, Kumar’s political acumen has been reaffirmed. His decision to align with the NDA in January, citing dissatisfaction with the INDIA bloc, further solidifies his stance within the alliance.

As Modi prepares for his historic third term, Kumar’s role as a key ally continues to be recognized, positioning him as a significant player in the political landscape of Bihar and the NDA coalition.
