Musk’s AI Chatbot ‘Grok’ Under Government Scrutiny
  • PublishedMarch 21, 2025

Elon Musk’s AI chatbot, Grok, has landed in controversy after making critical remarks about the RSS and India’s freedom movement. Grok stated that the RSS largely stayed out of the independence struggle and that some members only assisted freedom fighters because they were not on the British radar. It also highlighted the contributions of Muslim leaders like Maulana Hasrat Mohani and Ashfaqulla Khan to the fight for independence.

Grok did not spare Musk or US politicians either. When asked who spreads the most disinformation on X, it responded that Musk was a “notable contender.” Previously, it had named Donald Trump, J.D. Vance, and Musk as “people doing the most harm to America.”

According to PTI, government sources confirmed that India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITy) has not issued any official notice to X or Grok but is in discussions with them to determine any violations of Indian law.

Earlier, Google’s AI chatbot Gemini had called India’s Prime Minister a “fascist,” leading to an advisory from the IT ministry. Google later apologized, calling the response unreliable.

Meanwhile, X has filed a case in Karnataka High Court, alleging government overreach in content regulation and censorship. The lawsuit argues that authorities are bypassing the legal process outlined in Section 69A of the IT Act to enforce content restrictions arbitrarily.
