Fake Job Posts on Social Media Raise Concerns for Indian Companies
The increasing number of fake job postings on social media is becoming a major concern for Indian businesses. With a competitive job market, fraudulent listings have become more common, warns Tarun Bhatia, Regional Managing Director at Kroll. Many companies are now actively tracking social media to prevent misuse of their brand name.
In recent years, hiring has slowed due to global uncertainties, leading to a cooling job market. This makes job seekers more vulnerable to scams, as they are eager to apply for any opportunity. A LinkedIn spokesperson acknowledged the rise in fraud and highlighted the platform’s efforts in using artificial intelligence and expert teams to detect and remove fake accounts before they cause harm.
A recent case involved a fake job post under Nestlé’s name, advertising roles like HR Business Partner and Junior Data Analyst with salaries between ₹5-10 LPA and work-from-home options. The post, which included recruiter details and interview dates, seemed authentic but was later debunked by Nestlé’s chairman.
Some companies now ensure that recruiters clearly state they do not charge fees. Lohit Bhatia, President at Quess Corp, pointed out that these scams mostly target high-salary roles rather than entry-level jobs.
Beyond misleading candidates, such frauds pose risks of financial and data theft. Companies like RPG Group’s Zensar Technologies are working on solutions to prevent these scams and protect job seekers from exploitation.
