To uphold the integrity of the education system, the Punjab School Education Department has suspended two officials for their involvement in exam misconduct during the ongoing Class 10 board exams. The officials, including a superintendent and an invigilator, were posted at Government Model Senior Secondary School (Boys), Gurdaspur (Examination Centre-241251).
The action was taken following directives from School Education Minister S. Harjot Singh Bains after the Punjab School Education Board’s Flying Squad detected serious violations. During the Class 10 English exam on March 17, invigilator Kirandeep Kaur, a Hindi mistress, was found using WhatsApp to seek and share answers with students. The Centre Superintendent, Ashwani Kumar, a lecturer, failed to prevent the malpractice and allowed mobile phones in the exam hall.
Calling for strict enforcement of rules, Minister Bains stated, “Our government is committed to ensuring fair and transparent exams. Such violations will not be tolerated.” The suspended officials have been directed to report to the District Education Officer, Gurdaspur, where they will remain until further orders.
To prevent future malpractices, additional special teams and more Flying Squads will be deployed for increased monitoring. Minister Bains emphasized that the Punjab government, under Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, is dedicated to maintaining a merit-based education system. He warned that any further violations of exam protocols would result in strict punitive action.
