Iyer Embraces ‘Opportunity’ in Ponting’s Bold and Exciting Cricket Style!
As IPL 2025 approaches,Punjab Kings are set for an exciting season with a revamped squad and new leadership. Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer and the guidance of Ricky Ponting, the team is looking to turn its fortunes around.
Iyer, who played a key role in India’s Champions Trophy victory and led Kolkata Knight Riders to an IPL title last year, is eager for the challenge. Instead of seeing it as pressure, he views it as a valuable opportunity to bring success to Punjab Kings. The team begins its campaign against Gujarat Titans on March 25 in Ahmedabad.
Ponting, known for his aggressive coaching style, believes in playing bold, fearless cricket. “We have nothing to lose, so our approach will be dynamic and entertaining. With the talented squad we have, there’s no reason to hold back,” he stated during a practice session at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh PCA International Stadium in Mullanpur.
The franchise made headlines during the IPL mega auction, spending ₹26.75 crore on Iyer, making him one of the costliest buys. With key additions like Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal, Punjab Kings have assembled a strong mix of youth and experience.
With four home matches in Mullanpur and three in Dharamshala, the team hopes to capitalize on home advantage. CEO Satish Menon emphasized that the squad was built strategically for long-term success, marking a new era for Punjab Kings.
