Mohali’s 150-Tonne Waste Plant Set to Revolutionize Cleanliness!

The Mohali Municipal Corporation has set up a waste processing plant near Jagatpura with the capacity to handle 150 tonnes of waste daily. The facility is expected to start operations soon, with construction already completed, including the installation of necessary machinery, infrastructure, and a weighing scale. The only remaining step before full functionality is obtaining an electricity connection.
To enhance waste management, the civic body has also established a Recycling and Management Centre (RMC) in Shahi Majra, where advanced machines have been installed for waste processing. Additionally, an existing RMC point in Phase 3-A is already functional, converting wet waste into compost.
To further streamline waste disposal, new RMC points have been set up in Sector 71, Sector 78, and Sector 77. These centers will ensure waste segregation at the source, separating wet and dry waste for more efficient processing. Municipal authorities have confirmed that green waste will be transported to the Jagatpura plant for processing, making it a key facility in the city’s sustainability efforts.
Mohali Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu stated that following the closure of the city’s main dumping ground, Mohali faced severe waste disposal challenges. To tackle this issue, multiple RMC points were established, and the Jagatpura waste processing unit is now ready for launch, awaiting an electricity connection. Once operational, it will significantly improve the city’s waste disposal system and environmental health.
