Indian breads have long been an integral part of global cuisine, and now, their popularity has been recognized in Taste Atlas’ latest ranking of the World’s 50 Best Breads. Among the eight Indian varieties featured, butter garlic naan secured the top position, followed closely by Amritsari kulcha at number two.
From street food to fine dining, Indian breads have always complemented the country’s diverse flavors. Whether it’s chole with bhature or butter chicken with naan, these breads form an essential pairing in Indian cuisine. The rankings further affirm their global appeal, with Kerala’s parotta ranking sixth, while naan (collectively) secured the eighth spot.
Other Indian breads making it to the list include paratha (18th), bhature (26th), aloo naan (28th), and roti (35th). Additionally, Indian-influenced breads like Malaysia’s Roti Canai (4th) and Indonesia’s Roti Prata (23rd) also featured prominently.
This recognition underscores the versatility and widespread love for Indian breads. Whether it’s a flaky, buttery naan, a crisp and spicy kulcha, or a deep-fried, fluffy bhatura, these breads remain a staple across different cultures.
