More than two dozen studies at AIIMS’s Centre for Integrative Medicine Research (CIMR) have shown positive results in using yoga and Ayurveda to treat various health conditions, including coronary artery disease, stroke rehabilitation, migraines, diabetes, and sleep disorders.

At the inaugural International Integrative Medicine Conference, Dr. Gautam Sharma, founding professor at CIMR, emphasized the importance of evidence-based validation. He highlighted the center’s rigorous research trials to establish scientific proof for yoga techniques and Ayurvedic medicines. CIMR has published 28 research papers, primarily on yoga-based interventions.

Dr. Sharma noted that yoga’s accessibility and safety make it ideal for preventive healthcare. The center develops specialized yoga modules for different conditions, consulting therapists, doctors, and scientists for validation. Their studies indicate yoga’s effectiveness in managing autonomic imbalances, improving heart rate, digestion, and stress management through pranayama and meditation.

The conference, attended by 400 experts and researchers, focused on advancing integrative medicine, fostering collaboration between modern medicine and traditional Indian healing systems. Experts believe that incorporating yoga and Ayurveda can bridge gaps where conventional medicine has limitations, creating a holistic approach to healthcare.

With growing global recognition, CIMR continues to refine integrative methods, ensuring a balanced and scientifically validated approach to wellness.
