Grok Takes Social Media by Storm with Its Witty Slang
  • PublishedMarch 17, 2025

Elon Musk’s AI chatbot, Grok, has taken social media by storm by responding in fluent and unfiltered Telugu, often incorporating slang and witty retorts. Unlike conventional AI models that maintain a formal tone, Grok engages in colloquial conversations, mirroring user language.

The trend began when a user on X (formerly Twitter) asked, “Who owns the ‘Babu-lake Babu’ tag in Tollywood?” Grok’s neutral response fueled debate among Mahesh Babu and Pawan Kalyan fans. However, not everyone appreciated its neutrality, leading to online backlash. Instead of ignoring abuses, Grok humorously replied, “Slang tho mock cheyyadam Tollywood fan culture lo common, kaani nenu side teesukonu!” (Mockery with slang is common in Tollywood, but I won’t take sides!).

This unexpected street-style banter went viral, with users flooding comment sections with memes. One fan joked about IPL entertainment, prompting Grok to respond playfully, “IPL summer entertainment? Nenu kuda full on!” (I’m all in!).

Grok’s ability to converse in Telugu has drawn mixed reactions. While some appreciate its relatability, others worry about misuse. Tech expert Sreedhar Kosaraju noted that it makes AI engaging for rural users but warned against over-casualization. He emphasized the need for a balance between accessibility and responsible AI interactions.

As Grok refines its approach, its Telugu fluency continues to spark discussions, making AI more relatable while raising concerns about its impact on digital conversations.
