Pakistan Security Forces Rescue Over 150 Passengers from Hijacked Train, 27 Insurgents Killed
  • PublishedMarch 12, 2025

In a dramatic rescue operation, Pakistan’s security forces have successfully rescued 155 passengers from the hijacked Jaffar Express, while 27 insurgents were killed. The train was hijacked on Tuesday by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) in Balochistan’s Mashkaf tunnel while en route from Quetta to Peshawar.

The BLA, a separatist insurgent group, has claimed responsibility, stating that they are holding 214 hostages and demanding the release of political prisoners within 48 hours. The group has also threatened to execute hostages, including Army personnel, and destroy the train. Pakistani authorities have yet to confirm these figures.

Security operations are ongoing, with helicopters and additional forces deployed. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari have strongly condemned the attack, calling it an inhumane act against innocent citizens. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi vowed that those responsible will face the full force of the law.

Authorities have imposed an emergency at Sibi and Quetta hospitals, summoning medical personnel to treat injured passengers. Pakistan Railways has set up emergency desks at Peshawar and Quetta stations for distressed relatives.

This attack comes amid rising insurgent activity in Balochistan, following a suicide blast at Quetta Railway Station in November 2024, which killed 26 people.

Security operations continue as forces work tirelessly to rescue remaining hostages and restore safety.
