Avalanche Hits Uttarakhand’s Badrinath – 47 Workers Feared Trapped

A devastating avalanche struck near Mana village and Mana Pass in Uttarakhand’s Badrinath region on Friday, trapping 47 workers employed in clearing snow for army movement. The workers, contracted by a private agency, were engaged by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) when the avalanche occurred.

At least 10 workers have been rescued and are being provided medical aid by the Indian Army. The workers were found in critical condition but are stable. Rescue operations continue as the trapped workers remain beneath the snow. The ongoing snowfall and minor avalanches have made it challenging for rescue teams to access the site.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed concern and prayed for the safety of the workers, stating, “Relief and rescue operations are being carried out by ITBP, BRO, and other teams. I pray to Lord Badri Vishal for the safety of all the labour brothers.”

Rescue efforts are being led by the Indian Army’s IBEX Brigade, along with support from the ITBP, Garhwal scouts, and local teams. Additional equipment and troops have been staged to aid in the operation. High-altitude rescue teams from Joshimath, Gauchar, and Sahastradhara are on standby.

District officials are coordinating with rescue agencies, but communication remains limited due to difficult terrain and weather conditions. The situation is being closely monitored as operations continue.
