Tragedy in Clinical Trial: Bengaluru Man’s Death Sparks Investigation
A 33-year-old Bengaluru man, Nagesh Veeranna, died under mysterious circumstances after participating in a clinical trial conducted by Syngene International. Found unresponsive at his brother’s home in Jalahalli on Wednesday morning, his sudden death has prompted police to register a case of unnatural death and launch an investigation.
Nagesh’s brother, Revanasiddappa, alleged that his death resulted from side effects of trial medications, including tablets and injections. He stated that Nagesh, who had no prior health issues, began experiencing severe stomach pain in December 2024 after participating in the trial. Nagesh was admitted to a private hospital’s ICU for complications during that time.
On the night before his death, the brothers shared dinner before going to bed. When Revanasiddappa tried to wake him the next morning, Nagesh was unresponsive. Despite rushing him to the same hospital, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Syngene International extended condolences to the family and confirmed adherence to clinical trial protocols. In a statement, the company noted, “An individual who participated in one of our pharmacokinetic studies in early December passed away suddenly due to a medical event. We are cooperating fully with the authorities and supporting the family during this time.”
This incident raises concerns over the safety protocols in clinical trials, as authorities continue their probe into the circumstances surrounding Nagesh’s untimely death.
