The world’s largest spiritual congregation, Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, commenced in Prayagraj with the auspicious ‘Shahi Snan’ on Pauh Purnima. Held after a gap of 144 years, this grand event is expected to welcome over 45 crore devotees, including 15 lakh foreign tourists.
At the sacred Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers, nearly 60 lakh pilgrims took a holy dip early on the inaugural day. This act symbolizes spiritual cleansing and the quest for salvation (moksha).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a message on social media platform X, celebrated the event as a testament to India’s spiritual heritage, saying, “The Maha Kumbh embodies faith, devotion, and harmony. Wishing all pilgrims and tourists a blessed stay in Prayagraj.” Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath extended heartfelt wishes, emphasizing the state’s commitment to ensuring a memorable experience for every visitor.
Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh highlighted meticulous preparations for the 45-day event, backed by a budget of ₹7,000 crore. Special emphasis is placed on sanitation, security, and creating a digital Kumbh experience. Singh noted, “2019 witnessed 24 crore pilgrims during the Kumbh; this Maha Kumbh is set to double that.”
With its profound spiritual significance and global participation, the Maha Kumbh 2025 is a celebration of India’s eternal cultural values and unparalleled faith.
