Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King Set for OTT Release in March-April 2025
Disney’s highly acclaimed sequel, Mufasa: The Lion King, which debuted in theaters on December 20, 2024, is set to stream on Disney+ Hotstar around March or April 2025. The visually stunning and emotionally captivating tale of Mufasa’s rise to greatness grossed over $470 million globally, securing its place as the ninth highest-grossing film of 2024.
The film is expected to follow Disney’s 100-day exclusive theatrical window, a standard timeline for their major releases, before transitioning to digital platforms. Drawing from the release patterns of previous hits like The Little Mermaid, the digital premiere is anticipated to fall on a Wednesday, in line with Disney’s preferred scheduling strategy.
Directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Barry Jenkins, Mufasa: The Lion King delves deeper into the backstory of one of Disney’s most iconic characters. Jenkins described Mufasa as “the epitome of greatness and goodness,” contrasting sharply with his brother Scar.
