Actor Rajpal Yadav, who starred alongside Varun Dhawan in the recent film Baby John, has opened up about the film’s underperformance at the box office. Despite his action-packed role as Constable Ram Sevak, which garnered praise, Yadav believes that the film’s failure can be attributed to it being a remake.
In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, Rajpal stated, “If this wasn’t a remake, then this would have been the most well-made film of my 25-year career. But since Vijay had done it, the audience had already seen it, and because it was a remake, it affected the box office of the film.”
When asked about Varun Dhawan’s reaction to the film’s poor performance, Yadav defended the actor, saying, “Varun is such a sweet boy, very hardworking. He has always tried to do something different, and his attempts must be appreciated because it’s a big deal to take risks.”
Baby John, a Hindi remake of Thalapathy Vijay’s Theri, had a budget of over Rs 180 crore but struggled at the box office, opening with Rs 11.25 crore and seeing a drastic decline in earnings. Despite having a star-studded cast with Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi, Jackie Shroff, Salman Khan, and Sanya Malhotra, the film’s numbers are struggling to cross Rs 40 crore in India.
