Election Commission to Announce Delhi Assembly Election Dates Today
The Election Commission of India (ECI) will announce the schedule for the Delhi Assembly elections at 2 pm today, marking the onset of a high-stakes electoral battle among the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Congress.
The elections for the 70-member Assembly are expected to be held in a single phase in February, with the term ending on February 23.
AAP, led by Arvind Kejriwal, is aiming for a third consecutive term, banking on its governance achievements in education, healthcare, and infrastructure. Kejriwal, contesting from the New Delhi constituency, faces BJP’s Parvesh Sahib Singh and Congress’s Sandeep Dikshit. Chief Minister Atishi will contest against BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri and Congress’s Alka Lamba in Kalkaji.
The BJP, determined to end AAP’s dominance, is focusing on corruption allegations and its national vision for Delhi’s future. Meanwhile, Congress is preparing for a comeback, positioning itself as a viable alternative after years of electoral setbacks.
The AAP, which swept the 2015 and 2020 polls with 67 and 62 seats, respectively, faces challenges from opposition parties claiming a shift in political dynamics.
As Delhi heads into elections, key issues like governance, development, corruption, and public services are expected to dominate campaigns. The electoral fight promises to be intense as parties unveil their visions for Delhi’s future.
