BJP Announces First List of Candidates for Delhi Elections; Parvesh Verma to Contest Against Kejriwal
  • PublishedJanuary 4, 2025

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released its first list of 29 candidates for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, setting the stage for intense electoral battles across key constituencies.

Former Lok Sabha MP Parvesh Verma, son of ex-Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, has been fielded to challenge Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency. Verma’s entry marks a high-profile contest in a seat held by Kejriwal since 2013. The Congress has also upped the stakes by nominating Sandeep Dikshit, son of former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, for the same constituency.

In another key contest, BJP veteran Ramesh Bidhuri will take on Chief Minister Atishi of AAP in Kalkaji. Meanwhile, former AAP ministers Kailash Gahlot and Raaj Kumar Anand, who joined the BJP last year, have also secured tickets. Gahlot will contest from Bijwasan, while Anand has been fielded from Patel Nagar.

Other notable candidates include former Delhi Congress Chief Arvinder Singh Lovely from Gandhi Nagar, and former Delhi BJP President Satish Upadhyay from Malviya Nagar. Sitting MLAs Vijender Gupta, Om Prakash Sharma, Ajay Mahawar, and Jitender Mahajan will re-contest from their respective constituencies.

With the AAP and Congress also unveiling their candidates, Delhi is poised for a three-way battle in the elections. The BJP aims to leverage its mix of experienced leaders and recent party switchers to regain momentum in the capital.

The elections promise to be a critical test of leadership and voter loyalty in Delhi’s dynamic political landscape.
