52-Year-Old Goli Shyamala Conquers 150-Km Open Sea Swim from Visakhapatnam to Kakinada
In a stunning display of endurance and determination, 52-year-old Goli Shyamala has etched her name in history by swimming 150 kilometres in the open sea from Visakhapatnam to Kakinada. This extraordinary feat, completed over five days, stands as a testament to the unyielding human spirit and the belief that age is no barrier to achievement.
Shyamala, a resident of Samarlkota village in Kakinada district, began her journey on December 28 under the guidance of Coromandel Odyssee Ocean Swimming organisation. Battling the relentless rhythm of the waves, she covered an impressive 30 kilometres per day, finally arriving at the shores of Suryaraopeta in Kakinada to a hero’s welcome.
Dignitaries, including Peddapuram MLA Chinarajappa and Kakinada Municipal Commissioner Bhavana Vasista, joined the celebrations, lauding Shyamala’s perseverance. This achievement adds to her impressive record, including a Palk Strait swim in 2021 and becoming the first Asian to conquer the Lakshadweep waters earlier this year.
Supported by a dedicated 14-member crew, including medical staff and scuba divers, Shyamala navigated challenges such as jellyfish encounters while finding joy in moments with playful dolphins.
Shyamala’s accomplishment is not just a physical triumph but an inspiring message of resilience. Her journey redefines the boundaries of age and perseverance, encouraging people worldwide to pursue their dreams relentlessly.
