Varun Dhawan’s ‘Baby John’ Faces Tough Competition from ‘Pushpa 2’.
Varun Dhawan’s latest release, Baby John, is grappling with challenges at the box office, facing fierce competition from Allu Arjun’s blockbuster Pushpa 2. Despite releasing on Christmas with high expectations, the action thriller has struggled to make a significant mark, earning just ₹30.50 crore domestically and ₹43 crore globally within six days.
Produced by Atlee and adapted from his Tamil hit Theri, Baby John reported a sharp decline on its first Monday, collecting a modest ₹1.85 crore compared to Sunday’s ₹4.75 crore. The film’s overall Hindi occupancy stood at 10.77%, with the majority of footfall during night shows. Made on a reported budget of ₹160 crore, trade analysts predict the film may end its theatrical run around ₹60 crore, far below expectations.
In contrast, Pushpa 2 continues its dominance, collecting ₹6.65 crore on its fourth Monday alone. The Allu Arjun starrer has grossed a staggering ₹1,760 crore worldwide after 26 days, setting a benchmark that has overshadowed Baby John.
With no major Hindi releases scheduled this week, Baby John has a brief window to regain momentum during the New Year’s holiday. Featuring Keerthy Suresh alongside Varun Dhawan, the film’s future at the box office hinges on whether it can attract audiences or risks being labelled a commercial disappointment.
The coming days will determine if Baby John can recover or succumb to the mounting competition.
